Dynasty Minature American Shepherds

Dynasty Minature American Shepherds

Our Breeding Philosophy

Our goal is to produce the healthiest, puppies possible with good temperaments and solid, correct structure. We produce 3-4 litters per year. In each litter there will be some pet quality and some show/breed quality. We reserve some of the highest quality breeding potential puppies for co-ownerships with families. Dynasty reserves breeding rights to these dogs and will assist their new homes with training and showing these top contenders. We do not have dozens of dogs living with us in kennels. Our dogs live in our homes and are an integral part of our daily lives. We believe in keeping the number or our personally owned dogs manageable, every dog has the right to a loving family who has the time to give to their individual attention and well being so we co-own many of our best puppies. Finding quality, life-long homes for our wonderful Miniature American Shepherds whether they are show quality or pet quality is given highest priority. To start the process, a potential home would fill out the application. Upon acceptance, a nonrefundable deposit holds a puppy for you. In order to match the right puppy to the right home, we test them at 7-8 weeks old for temperament and structure. This is when we determine which ones are show and which are pet. Being a pet quality does not mean there is anything wrong with them that may cause problems later. It means they do not meet the highest standard we expect out of our breeding and showing prospects.

After these tests, we can determine which temperament will work best for which new home. Choosing a puppy by color alone is not a good idea. The most important thing is that the puppy matches the lifestyle of their new family so all will be happy for a lifetime of companionship. I cannot place a puppy with high drive with a family with small children and I cannot place a more laid back puppy in a performance home. No matter how cute they are, lifelong compatibility is most important. We remain committed to our puppies once they are placed and are available to help answer questions. Our commitment to our puppies is life-long.

Dynasty Mini AmericansEach litter is carefully planned in the continual attempt at improving on the quality of the parents. We research all pedigrees of potential crosses to ensure the best potential breeding. We pride ourselves on knowing the best temperaments to breed to our dogs to ensure the best possible temperament.

We consider health, temperament, structure and breed type prior to each breeding. Every breeding prospect must have their Eye Certification showing that there are no hereditary eye problems and their hips OFA (Orthopedic Foundation of America) to ensure no hip dysplasia. In the last few years many DNA tests have become available to us as a tool to help ensure the best crosses as well.

Our puppies get plenty of socialization with different people starting at 5 weeks old. We expose our puppies to multiple stimuli including music, television, loud noises, different temperatures, different surfaces and they have a large play yard outside that they romp in when old enough. Puppies are available at 8 weeks of age.

All new homes are expected to attend a puppy class as well as an Obedience class at their local kennel club or private training center. A good start is extremely important in your relationship with your new family member and this includes establishing a strong leader/ happy follower relationship early on. Miniature American Shepherds are very loyal and loving and once this relationship is established they will do anything to please you.
